Exploring Photovoltaic (PV) Electricity Generation

Exploring Photovoltaic (PV) Electricity Generation

Home » School Visits » Renewable Energy » Exploring Photovoltaic (PV) Electricity Generation

Along with hydro and wind, photovoltaics are one of the key sources of renewably generated electricity.

This workshop allows pupils to explore the generation characteristics of a typical photovoltaic panel in relation to orientation and load.

Workshop overview

Pupils produce a wiring diagram and working outside, set up a PV panel connected to a voltmeter, ammeter and solarimeter. Whilst measuring the incoming solar energy, pupils take voltage and current readings with the panel connected to a variable resistor and calculate the panel’s efficiency.
